Win over Colombia, England Focus Face Sweden

England coach Gareth Southgate has revealed that his side deserve a win in the last 16 of the 2018 World Cup against Colombia at Otkrytiye Arena on Tuesday (3/7/2018) or Wednesday early morning GMT.

Southgate thought his team deserved a win because it played so well for 90 minutes.

“We deserve it, we played well for 90 minutes,” Southgate told BBC Sport.

“We showed resilience to go back and stay calm – this is a compliment to all players and staff,” he said.

Southgate added, on penalties there is a difficult thing to pass. Moreover, England has a bad record because it has never won a penalty shoot since 1996.

“The penalty shootout is tough, we’ve talked a lot to master the penalty shootout, they keep calm and the players follow the strategy given. This is a special moment for us,” said Southgate.

The Three Lions won 4-3 over Colombia in a penalty shootout. This victory makes them qualify for the quarter-finals and will play Sweden at Samara Arena on Saturday (7/7/2018).

The Watford-born coach will focus on the next game, as England have a poor record against Sweden.

In ten meetings with Sweden both friendly and tournament matches, England only won twice and draws five times.
