Caught Smoking, Badminton Players are Dragged from the Asian Games Squad

Single son of Malaysia, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin crossed out of the Asian Games squad for caught smoking and other disciplinary offenses.

Iskandar’s case does not seem to be the last, because the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is looking for athletes who are addicted to smoking.

Iskandar’s position, 27th was replaced by world number 51 player Soong Joo Ven for participation at the Asian Games which will take place from 18 August to 2 September 2018.

Iskandar’s decision to remove Iskandar was carried out by the sole head coach of the son, Datuk Misbun Sidxek and directly approved by the BAM board headed by Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria.

Iskandar was found out smoking in the team hotel while strengthening his country at the Thomas Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, in May.

He had previously been sentenced to a salary cut of 50 percent for violating the rules issued by the BAM cigarettes.

But Misbun’s decision was also influenced by the poor discipline of Iskandar.
He is known to leave the training camp.

“First of all smoking, then he disappeared from the national training camp during the break,” Norza said.

“Misbun was uncomfortable with Iskandar and decided to replace him with Joo Ven, he felt this was the best decision,” Norza said again.

“The Board (BAM) appreciates Misbun’s misbehavior and supports it,” Norza added.

Norza also mentioned there were about 5-6 players who indicated smoking and BAM plans to call them.

BAM’s party does not allow tolerance for those who smoke based on examinations by the National Institute of Sport (NSI) Malaysia.

“If there is any gibbings known to contain nicotine in their bodies through blood tests by NSI, they will have the last chance before we are forced to remove it,” Norza continued.
“They will get a chance during the month’s tug, before undergoing re-examination.”
