Nepali Man Suspected to Have killed Indonesian Girlfriend

Malaysian police suspect a Nepali factory worker from George Town in Penang killed his 25-year-old Indonesian girlfriend because he believed she had cheated on him.

At 10pm on Tuesday two housemates of the suspect became concerned about the strong smell from an adjacent room in an apartment on the 25th floor of Green Garden in Paya Terubong, near Air Itam, Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.

The pair broke into the suspect’s room, which had reportedly been left vacant for a few days, and found the remains of the Indonesian woman, Santi Restauli Simbolon, inside the padlocked wardrobe.

The pair told the police their Nepali housemate, 27, was last seen on Friday, while another witness, a housemate of the victim living on the 17th floor of the same building, said Simbolon was last seen on Saturday (March 10).

Preliminary police inquiries found that the Nepali suspect, who was a factory operator and colleague of the victim, was getting jealous, as he suspected that the victim might have cheated on him. They suspect she could have been killed by the suspect after a heated dispute.

Police said no external injuries were noted on the woman’s body during a preliminary examination. A post-mortem will be performed at the Penang Hospital to try to ascertain her cause of death.
