Three Blasts Reported in Pasuruan, East Java; Child Injured

A child was wounded in one of three blasts that occurred in Pogar village in Pasuruan district, East Java, on Thursday (05/07), police said.

The first explosion occurred at 11.30 a.m. at a house rented by a family of three. This was followed by another soon after, East Java Police spokesman Senior Comr. Frans Barung Mangera said, as reported by BeritaSatu.com.

Neighbors who reported the incident to police saw members of the family leave the house in hurry after the second explosion. According to one witnesses, the head of the family, identified as 50-year-old Abdullah, carried a backpack, while his wife Dina, 40, held their only child, a 6-year-old boy.

“The community responded quickly and called the police. Three people, the husband, wife and their child, were seen leaving the house in a hurry. The backpack exploded during the ensuing police pursuit,” Frans told Metro TV.

Abdullah is currently on the run, while his wife is in custody and their child, who was injured in the third explosion, is receiving medical treatment at a police hospital.

Frans said police have yet to establish what type of explosive was used, as well as the motive behind the incident.

The family has lived in the house for about a year, according to witnesses.

Several people died and dozens were wounded in a series of explosions in Surabaya and Sidoardjo, also in East Java, during May this year, which police later blamed on the Islamic State-affiliated terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah.
