Argentina Goalkeeper Romero to Miss World Cup

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering a knee injury while training with Argentina’s national squad on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old will be replaced by Nahuel Guzman, who plays for Mexican club Tigres, according to the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

“Sergio Romero suffered today a joint blockage in his right knee that will leave him out of the squad,” the AFA said in a brief statement.

Romero has been capped 94 times for his country and played in the 2014 World Cup final defeat to Germany.

Chelsea’s Willy Caballero and River Plate’s Franco Armani are the other goalkeepers in the Albiceleste squad.

Argentina will begin their World Cup campaign against Iceland on June 16 before other group matches against Croatia and Nigeria.
