Comedian Gogon Dies at 58

Indonesian veteran comedian Margono (Gogon) from the Srimulat comedy group has died at the age of 58 on Tuesday.

Kadir, a fellow comedian, confirmed the news that Gogon had passed away at 5 a.m in Lampung, Sumatra.

“I received the news from his child via a phone call,” said Kadir to kompas.com.

The cause of Gogon’s death has not yet been confirmed. However, Kadir said the comedian had been suffering from heart disease.

“He often had trouble of breathing, for almost two years. He was supposed to have an operation but he wasn’t willing to,” said Kadir.

According to plans, Gogon will be buried in Surakarta, Central Java.

Gogon was one of the members of renowned Srimulat comedy group, known for his trademark crest hairstyle.

Starting his career in 1980, Gogon rose to fame in the late 1980s alongside other Srimulat members, as the group had their own show on numerous national TV stations.

Gogon also starred in the film Finding Srimulat ( 2013 ), with actors Reza Rahadian and Rianti Cartwright.
