KPI: Election Candidates Prohibited to Congratulate on TV

Chairman of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Yuliandre Darwis urged the candidates for regional head election not to appear on television, except for the debate organized by the election organizer.

The ban on television also applies for the acting show, congratulating to celebrate Ramadan or Eid Day, and delivering a lecture.

“Not allowed,” Yuliandre said at the office of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), Monday, May 7. The ban was intended to create a balance principle.

KPI with Bawaslu, KPU (General Election Commission) and the Press Council have established a task force to regulate the regulation of the matter.

“The candidates are not allowed to appear on the screen, it will be our authority to keep an eye on,” he said.

According to him, at this time, the campaign of political candidates in the broadcast media also had not existed after the incident of alleged violation of Perindo Party campaign on television.

Media has also been more careful in receiving advertisements from the election candidates.

If there are despicable broadcasting media featuring candidates for the regional head prior to the ballot, the media concerned will be subject to sanctions. The sanctions could be either a reprimand, a reduction of airtime, or revoking the program.

“The candidates of the regional head election are not allowed to give lectures on television, if not a candidate, it is allowed,” he said.
