Regional Heads Urged to Complete e-ID Issuance

Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo has asked regional head to urge residents to register for e-ID cards.

According to the latest data, 184 million have received their e-ID cards.

Tjahjo said local leaders must approach residents ahead of next year’s presidential and legislative elections.

“We want to achieve the 100 percent target. Hence, regents and mayors must go door-to-door to reach their residents living in the mountains and remote and border areas,” said Tjahjo in Medan on Tuesday.

He further said many residents had not proactively asked local authorities to record their population data.

Citing an example, Tjahjo said, only 40 percent of people in Papua had obtained e-ID cards.

“Residents must also be proactive to in getting their population data recorded,” he said.

The minister said problems related to e-ID cards needed to be anticipated as around 1.5 million teenagers were required to obtain them each year.
