Liverpool Receive Good News in Their Record-Breaking Transfer Pursuit

Liverpool will be able to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker for as ‘little’ as £52million, according to reports.

The Brazil stopper has been priced as high as £80million in previous reports so the latest news could be music to the Reds’ ears.

Jurgen Klopp already knows he’ll have to break the transfer record for a keeper to land him.

But according to Corriere Dello Sport President James Pallota has instructed the Italians not to even consider selling the keeper to Real Madrid, Liverpool or anyone else for less than €60 million.

Pallota said about clubs raiding Roma for players: “I feel frustrated when people say that Rome is a supermarket, things are not simple when a footballer moves.

He then added about the Brazilian: “I’ve been a Alisson fan since the first day he was with us and I’m glad he’s finally succeeded in show how good he is.”

But Italian sources are sure it will cost Liverpool around £52m to prise him away.

Meanwhile Brazil legend Claudio Taffarel believes Alisson is on his way to becoming the best goalkeeper in the world.

“In the time that we worked with him at Internacional and with the national squad, we knew he would reach a high level,” he told Omnisport.

“I’ll always respect the career of Buffon, who has been brilliant. But I believe that Alisson, as a goalkeeper, is more technical with a different posture.

“He always stands assertively and is confident in what he does. Alisson is really impressive.

“There is more time needed to see if he can reach the top or not, but he has the qualities to stay on top and become the best goalkeeper in the world, without doubt.”

Emre Can

Liverpool star Emre Can’s future at Anfield remains in doubt with Juventus said to be ready to look elsewhere for a midfielder.

The Italian giants are thought to be ‘tired of waiting’ for Can to make a decision over his future.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and Liverpool are thought to be resigned to losing him on a free transfer.

He is not expected to pen fresh terms on Merseyside, but looks to be a long way from deciding which club he will ply his trade at next season.

But former Napoli and Atalanta director of football Pierpaolo Marino told RMC Sport: “Juventus has tired of waiting for a response from Emre Can. However, Juventus are no longer wants to wait if he is ready to wear to wear the shirt.”

Significance

Liverpool’s run to the Champions League semi-finals have taken on extra significance.

The 2-1 win over Manchester City took them one step closer to winning the elite European competition.

But it also rubbed salt into the wound for City’s rivals United when this record was broken.

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino overturned Gabriel Jesus’ early opener to seal a 2-1 victory.

The pair’s goals took Liverpool’s tally to 33 in the Champions League this season, six more than the already eliminated Paris Saint-Germain, report The Mirror.

The number also breaks the record for most goals scored in a single campaign – previously set by Manchester United.

The Red Devils scored 32 in the 2002/03 season, when they were knocked out in the Champions League by Real Madrid at the quarter-final stage.

Liverpool have also broken United’s tally in four less outings, doing so in 10 appearances.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will now have at least two more games to further their record. Liverpool will found out their semi-final opponents on Friday.

Ox Backing

Danny Murphy has hinted that Arsenal’s fitness regime was holding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back.

Former Liverpool star Murphy has aimed the cheeky dig at the Gunners amid Chamberlain’s impressive form for the Reds.

England midfielder Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal for £35million in August.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain, people spoke about him ‘oh he’s too much money’,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

“I’ve always been a fan of Ox by the way. Look how fit he looks now in comparison.

“They talked about when he went to Liverpool he couldn’t play for a while, they had to give him another pre-season. That tells you something about Arsenal.”

Chamberlain, who has made 45 appearances for Liverpool this season, was also praised by presenter Alan Brazil.

“When he started they said ‘oh, no, rabbit in the headlights’,” he said.

“But he’s now come on hasn’t he.”
