‘Dilan 1990’ to be Screened at 2018 Okinawa International Movie Festival

After being watched by more than 6 million viewers in Indonesia, the movie Dilan 1990 is set to go overseas. Dilan 1990 is scheduled to be screened at the 2018 Okinawa International Movie Festival (OIMF). Being held for the 10th time this year, the 2018 OIMF will take place on April 19-22.

Along with 12 movies from Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong, the screen version of the book Dilan: Dia adalah Dilanku tahun 1990 (Dilan: He’s My Dilan in 1990) by Pidi Baiq is grouped in the Special Invitation category.

Kompas.com reports that for the category, the festival organizer selected new Japanese movies that would be premiered after the event, together with movies from Asia and other parts of the world that have not been released in Japan.

Dilan 1990 depicts the high-school romance between Dilan and Milea, portrayed by newcomers Iqbaal Ramadhan and Vanesha Prescilla. It became very popular mainly because of the portrayal of Dilan’s unusual ways of winning Milea’s heart, along with the boy’s sweet talk, which is widely quoted among those who have watched the movie.

Apart from Dilan 1990, among the 12 movies in the Special Invitation category of the 2018 OIMF are Japan’s Born Bone Boon directed by Toshiyuki Teruya, China’s In Pursuit of the General by Teng Junjie, and Thailand’s 9 Satra: The Legend of Muay Thai by Pongsa Kornsri.
